Many believe that drinking a cup of warm water with half of a lemon first thing in the morning is great for one’s health. There are many benefits associated with this drink. These advantages include stimulating the liver, aiding in digestion, resolving heartburn while also balancing body pH.

Sadly, this drink comes with a significant side effect, dental healthThe acid in fruit juices will erode teeth enamel. When the lemon is mixed with the warm water, the erosion becomes worse. Basic chemistry shows us that chemical reactions speed up when heat is added, and this is the case with the acid and enamel. Enamel is vital to one’s dental health, and it protects the dentin. Once the enamel is gone, sensitivity increases among with many other problems.

There are several tricks to minimize damage. Use a straw, rinse with filtered water right afterwards, and brush the teeth prior to drinking. These are all useful tips, but will not stop the erosion entirely.

Is Your Body Acidic?

It is important to maintain pH balance in our bodies.  One can do this by changing their diet and eating foods that promote alkalinity!  Some foods that promote a balanced pH include celery, broccoli, peppers, kale, and avocados!

Symptoms can include :  muscular pain, heartburn, cold hands or feet, joint pain, mucus build-up, etc.

Here is a recipe you can use to help balance your body’s pH…

**1/3 tsp. baking soda

**2 T. lemon juice or Organic apple cider vinegar

Mix together…it will fizz!  When it calms down, add it to a glass of water and drink at once!  This can also help with stomach acid!

Luscious Lemon Cupcakes

Yesterday was my daughter’s birthday!  She loves it when I bake her birthday goodies.  I, myself, am not a dessert eater…but do love to create at times! In a #pinch, and not really wanting to take the time to come up with a recipe,  I found myself in the #baking aisle at the market checking out all of the boxed mixes…however, not loving the preservatives, etc. that they contain.. one caught my eye…  Immaculate, Naturally Delicious, Yellow Cake SCRATCH Baking Mix!  So I came up with a plan!!  I decided to replace a few of the baking ingredients with lemon and coconut oil!

The recipe called for 3/4 cup of milk… I replaced it with 3/4 cup of freshley squeezed lemon juice..My dad grows the best lemons!

Then…instead of the 3/4 cup of butter, I used 3/4 cup of organic virgin coconut oil..

And of course the 4 eggs I used were Free Range Organic..

I then #zested the lemon rinds and added that to the mix!

I used the mini baking cups…I feel that that is a perfect size for people to taste…

I preheated the oven to 325*.

I baked them between 15 and 18 minutes.  Make sure to check centers with a toothpick!

I refrigerated them until the next day when I had time to frost them!  I topped them with a Cream Cheese frosting!

I must say…they were a hit!  YAY!IMG_4864

Today’s Breakfast

Today’s breakfast consisted of  the following recipe…however, I did add ginger, flax, chia, hemp, spirulina! It’s so nice to know that you can get organic produce from local growers at Sprouts Market!  I grew up with the Deardorff family!  So check to see if your markets carry organic produce from local growers…or hit up your local Farmers Market!
